AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy uses essential plant oils in combinations suited to the special needs and symptoms of the person being treated. These highly concentrated oils are used for their therapeutic properties, and they can be combined in various ways to treat many conditions.

The oils have been used in medicines for over a thousand years, and they are effective both on physiological and on psychological levels.

Aromatherapy can be used in conjunction with orthodox medicine as a complementary therapy. However, it is not normally used where there is serious illness except with the permission of the general practitioner concerned.

Methods of application include massage, inhalations, baths, depending on the nature of the condition being treated. The oils are not normally taken by mouth.

How Can Aromatherapy Help Me?

Aromatherapy is especially useful in addressing stress-related conditions. This applies to those whose job or lifestyle is 'getting them down,' and also to a range of medical conditions :-
  • to help people to relax
  • sleep and de-stress

What Happens During A Treatment?

Your first visit will consist of a full history being taken about your general health and lifestyle. This information will be the basis on which the best blend of essential oils will be made up for you.

The treatment consists of a relaxing massage using a blend of oils. The massage concentrates on the muscle areas of the body and aims amongst other things to improve circulation. The effect will be relaxing, stimulating or balancing depending on the oils used.

What Are The Professional Qualifications And Codes Of Practice?

Aromatherapy when given by a fully qualified practitioner is very safe and effective. The Aromatherapy Organisations Council (AOC) is the governing body for Aromatherapists in the UK, representing the interests of the client and the practitioner.

The recently-formed International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA) is the amalgamation of the three main aromatherapy organisations into one body with one voice.
