RUNNING TECHNIQUE COURSE
Suitable for runners of all abilities and experience.

Running technique is often overshadowed by fitness concerns for runners. Yet, if you can improve your technique, it can make a huge difference to your performance whilst reducing the risk of injury.

Take a look at the photograph on the right, which of these runners has the best technique? Because we all have different body proportions efficient techniques will differ from one another. However, there are a few golden rules that apply to use all.

The runners on the right of this photo (the one in the shades and the other in the red vest) look relaxed, balanced and upright. The two athletes on the left look tense, have tightened their necks and shoulders and therefore pulled themselves off-balance. Not only does this require more effort to run, it adds unnecessary stress to muscles and joints.

Improve Your Running Technique

The two-hour course looks in depth at the mechanics of running using easy-to-follow exercises. Following an indoor session, you will get the chance to apply the techniques on short practice runs at the park.

The course will help you
  • Reduce risk of running injuries
  • Increase your speed
  • Improve your stamina
  • Enhance overall running performance
  • Advance your running knowledge

You are encouraged to try the techniques in your training programme and return for a follow-up/ advanced course 6 weeks later.

The Alexander Technique here.

Course Tutor: Roy Palmer MSTAT

Roy is a teacher of The Alexander Technique, athletics coach (C&C Athletics Club) and a runner with over 25 years experience after running his first marathon in 1984. After suffering from the usual running injuries he had to stop completely for 3 years with back problems. After taking lessons in the Alexander Technique he returned to running and trained with Malcolm Balk, author of Master The Art of Running, and re-learnt how to run. For the last 15 years he has continued to run, and to date, has suffered no injury problems (fingers crossed).

Over the last 15 years he has worked with runners of all abilities and recently ran a course for Team MK - The Milton Keynes Triathlon Club.

To book a place on a course please contact us at the Centre. The course fee is £20.
