What treatments are available for tension-type headaches?
Standard medical treatment consists of painkillers such as paracetamol. An alternative is anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen. For more persistent or recurring tension-type headaches can be treated with amitriptyline an antidepressant which is prescribed to treat chronic (persistent) tension-type headaches. However these medications are only useful to treat the headache once it has occurred.
Natural Therapies for headaches
Other options available will take a more preventative stance. Suitable treatments that we can offer at the Centre are:
Osteopathy – to look at the body structure, in particular the head and neck for areas of tension or restriction of movement to the neck, but often involves the back too.
Physiotherapy – looks at the structure of the neck restriction of movement.
