Father’s Day Huntingdon 10k Race 2013

Father’s Day 2013, no cards! no presents! Just an early start heading to Alconbury airfield for this year’s Huntingdon 10k Race. The physio area was located in one corner of the marquee and having set up the physiotherapy area, I was on hand during the day to provide a free running and injury advice service. The morning started very slowly, lots of activity from stallholders setting up in the marquee and a couple of fun runners seeking advice on running. The fun run underway and things got a bit busier. I gave guidance to both runners and non-runners alike during the morning. Several runners called into see me with previous running injuries and were given advice on race and post race management. The majority of problems were related to knee, shin and foot problems, I also used a specific taping for a lady with plantar fascia pain – she called back after the race, ‘having completed the race pain-free thanks to the taping’. A number of people, including stallholders, were also given advice on back pain during the day. As runners began finishing the 10k race things got busier, advice was given on post race management, a few runners were advised to seek further medical attention, others were given rehab exercises, but also quite a few seeking a post race sports massage which was provided by colleagues from PFit. Well, the weather held up, a busy morning in the end without too many injuries from racing, all in all another successful year.
